Orianda's owner has been involved with vintage yachts for over decade now. Between 1999 and 2005 he completely restored S.Y.Delfino, a 17 metre, 1939 Ketch designed by John Alden www.delfino1939.com.

For the subsequent three years after this important refit, he sailed Delfino across the Mediterranean participating in Classic Yacht regattas but also exploring maritime heavens scattered across marenostrum.

It was at this pointIt that he decided that it was time to give other vintage yacht enthusiasts a chance to enjoy Delfino whilst he would look for a larger vintage vessel in order offer to a greater number of friends the opportunity to taste the great experience of sailing on a wooden vessel oozing history and charm. The only way to achieve this was naturally going to be through the charter market.

After a year spent searching for a substitute for Delfino, the owner found Orianda lying in Spain. Having quickly made contact with the owners after only a few days, the owner was on board inspecting her beauty whislt falling in love with her. It only took a few weeks of negotiations before Orianda changed hands.

Orianda was sailed for four months between June and October by her owner and crew in order to determine all the areas of the vessel that would need to be looked at during the scheduled winter refit it was planned to undergo. They sailed from Spain to France first and then from France to Italy. From Italy they carried on toward Greece where they sailed around the Pelopponese before finally reaching after four months on the go, Fiumicino in Italy at the end of October. Her well deserved refit was to commence.

The works carried out by Fiumicino s Yard, Tecnomar included bringing Orianda 300HP Cummins engine to zero hours, replacing the air conditioning system as well as all the wiring, adding a 3rd Head as well as replacing all the sea cocks. The masts were restored, the sails brought back to life, satellite and WI-FI were put on board.... All the works commissioned by the owner focussed in giving Orianda all the needful security features, as well as the elegance and decor of vintage yachts therefore combining vintage beauty with modern technology, safety and comfort.Whislt her refit was being carried out, the owner was able to reconstruct the boats history. This was done through research at the Register of Lloyds as well as research to Yacht Clubs.

Oriandas history has now been recovered and is viewable on www.orianda1937.com . The generosity of former owners was unparalleled, each providing anecdotes and picture which are posted on the website.Orianda is expected to sail again at the end of June and thus once again allowing all those on board to enjoy such a beautiful yacht and its sailing characteristics. Sailing Yachts are there to be sailed.

The owner is proud to know that it takes approximately 15 minutes to hoist Oriandas sails a rare feature on vintage yachts......

FEADSHIP a famous brand Wed, 12 May 2010 12:28 GMT http://www.classic-charters.com/pages/general/news.asp?newsUid=11 FEADSHIP is founded by two families. De Vries and Van Lent. Two shipyards in Aalsmeer and Kaag and one engineering and design center: De Voogt Naval Architects. HISTORY. After World War II, the Royal Van Lent Shipyard, De Vries Scheepsbouw and 4 other yards decided to join forces in getting a share of the thriving American market. The man behind this move was naval architect Henri de Voogt. The name Feadship-the First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders-was considered to be an innovation. Dutch shipbuilding got an important distinction in the market where image was crucial. The Americans were amazed at Feadship's use of steel and orders began to flow. By mid 1950's the last big wooden yacht-ATALANTA- was built. And as the American economy boomed, Henry Ford and Malcom Forbes took advantage of Feadship's unique offer: to design and build a completely custom-built yacht. Feadship is now a brand associated with unmatched quality . With over 200 Feadships gracing the world's oceans, a commitment to supplying total reliability has clearly paid off. Feadship is acknowledged as the global leader of premium quality displacement motoryachts CHARTERING A CLASSIC FEADSHIP We at classic-charters.com are mainly interested in the beautiful designs of the Feadships before 1975.We think these classic Feadships will become extremely rare and valuable in the future. We spotted 8 of them for charter and we expect to build a fleet of 10 before 2011. You find them on our website under classic Feadships. ATALANTA (ex Sirocco) was the last big wooden motoryacht built by Feadship in 1958. She is unique and now part of dutch maritime history. HEAVENLY DAZE. Built in 1972. Renovated from stern to stern. A wonderful classic. SECRET LIFE Built in 1972. Look at her beautiful lines. She combines "classic" "refined" and "elegant". IDUNA 1939. Read the book about her spectacular refit. One of the few motor-sailors built by Feadship. THE HIGHLANDER Built in 1967 and now in the Carib. Very much a Feadship. ZAZU Built in 1970. She proves tradition, elegance and comfort can be a timeless combination. LABRADOR 1965. One of the smaller Feadships. In a superb condition. FLAME Built in 1956 . Has a rich history. You will see her in the Carib. about fuel consumption Tue, 11 May 2010 17:59 GMT http://www.classic-charters.com/pages/general/news.asp?newsUid=10 The average 80-100 ft Mangusta type motoryacht consumes 500-1000 liter per hour while cruising 30 knots. The average 80-100 ft classic motoryacht, belonging to the fleet of classic-charters.com, consumes 65 liter per hour while cruising 9-10 knots. In other words: One Mangusta type motoryacht consumes approximately the same quantity of fuel as 10 classic motoryachts. The classic motoryachts offer the same comfort, more elegance, less speed and the satisfaction of being much more environment-friendly . Not to speak about classic sailing yachts! Just think about it. Before you charter a motor or a sailing yacht this summer. CLASSIC YACHT CHARTER -THE ART OF COMFORT http://www.classic-charters.com/index.asp Wed, 28 Apr 2010 11:24 GMT http://www.classic-charters.com/pages/general/news.asp?newsUid=9 If you are contemplating chartering a yacht, be it in the Western or Eastern Mediterranean, Caribbean, South East Asia then take time to consider chartering a classic yacht that we believe will fulfil your cruising expectations against a modern yacht. Remember many of the classic yachts around today were built by some of the world's best and most famous yacht designers and shipyards and it is testimony to their skill that these yachts are around today. Many of the sailing yachts were built in the 1920's and 30's for Worldly entrepreneurs of their time where money was absolutely no object and the finest materials were used. Some were built for the grand world tour or simply just to be fastest on the water to compete in Classic Yachting Regattas around the world. Hence the beautiful J class yachts like Shamrock V, so pleasing to the eye. Today many of these yachts have been beautifully restored by their owners who have preserved the authenticity of their yachts whilst discreetly providing modern amenities that you would expect on a modern yacht today, such as en-suite bathrooms where there is space to do so, WiFi connection, satellite communications, flat screen TVs and surround sound audio systems, air-conditioning, stabilizers, and water makers. The crew are all hand picked and appreciate the elegance of the yachts that they command. Chartering a classic yacht makes you stand out from the crowd in any marina or port of call, whilst knowing that your carbon foot print will be minuscule compared to many modern yachts. Classic motor yachts were built for long distance cruising and are extremely economical with fuel. Owners of classic yachts mostly have a taste for the mix between elegance and comfort, and as owners they are extremely committed to preserving our nautical heritage and have a strong identity with these authentic classic yachts. Chartering a classic yacht is not about being as comfortable as modern yachts but about a different feeling for comfort and a difference taste. ATALANTA- a yacht with soul... http://www.classic-charters.com/pages/yachts/detail.asp?yachtUid=4 Tue, 20 Apr 2010 10:55 GMT http://www.classic-charters.com/pages/general/news.asp?newsUid=8 As the owner of the 25 m Feadship ATALANTA, it is fair to say that classic yachts have always been an important part of my life. Since 1970 i have owned 10 classic yachts and of these ATALANTA is by far the most special. For me the difference between an authentic classic and a modern classic lies in the fact that the authentic classics are designed and built by hand and therefore by definition are imperfect. This means that the more time spent aboard, the more you discover small details unseen previously. This is what gives an authentic classic motoryacht like ATALANTA her soul, as the personalities of the craftsmen who built her in 1958 at Feadship, and those who restored her for me at Dorr Lemmer between 2005 and 2007 are imprinted in het DNA. As a classic yacht enthusiast i was interested to find a charter company which genuinely had an understanding for classic yachts. I came across classic-charters.com and liked the philosophy of the company, where they have the best understanding of yachts with soul. ATALANTA is now, as well as 75 other classic motor and sailing yachts, available through them for charter. Please visit www.classic-charters.com if you would like to experience some soul yachting!
